Botanomancy
Also daphnomancy · plant divination
Botanomancy is divination by plants: burning leaves or twigs, listening to them crackle, plucking petals or drawing plant parts by lot. An ancient form, daphnomancy, interpreted the sound of laurel leaves thrown on the fire, the laurel being sacred to Apollo. Plucking the petals of a daisy while chanting “he loves me, he loves me not” is a childhood survival of it. The yarrow stalks of the I Ching also use a plant, but as a tool for casting.
