Drawing the cards

Also drawing a card · reading the cards · picking cards

Drawing the cards means taking from the deck the cards that will make up the reading, either by choosing them from a fanned-out spread or by taking them from the top of the pile. In French, the corresponding expression, “tirer les cartes,” also refers by extension to the whole practice of cartomancy, much as one says in English that someone “reads cards.” The drawing is done by the querent or by the reader, depending on each person’s habits.
