Playing-card inset
Also playing-card insert · Lenormand inset
The playing-card inset is the small reproduction of an ordinary card (ten of hearts, king of spades…) printed in a corner of the cards of many oracles, notably the Petit Lenormand and the Grand Jeu de Mlle Lenormand. Inherited from the Game of Hope, this detail also allowed the deck to be used for playing. Some practitioners ignore it entirely; others use it to nuance an interpretation, for instance by reading the hearts suit as an emotional sign, or to connect the oracle to classic cartomancy.
