Éliphas Lévi
Also Eliphas Levi · Alphonse-Louis Constant
Éliphas Lévi, the pen name of Alphonse-Louis Constant (1810-1875), was a French occultist whose Dogme et rituel de la haute magie (Dogma and Ritual of High Magic, 1854-1856) matched the twenty-two Major Arcana with the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. This correspondence, which systematized the link between tarot and Kabbalah, was taken up and modified by Papus, Oswald Wirth and then the Golden Dawn. He is a central figure of the nineteenth-century occult revival.
