Golden Dawn

Also Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn · the Order of the Golden Dawn

The Golden Dawn, or Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, was an initiatory society founded in London in 1888 that made the tarot a pillar of its teaching. It systematized the correspondences between the arcana, Hebrew letters, astrological signs, planets and elements, modifying Éliphas Lévi's scheme. Arthur Edward Waite, Pamela Colman Smith and Aleister Crowley were members, so its tables shaped the two most widely used tarot decks of the twentieth century.
