Abuse of weakness
Also abus de faiblesse · exploitation of vulnerability · undue influence
Abuse of weakness is the offense, under French law, of taking advantage of a person's ignorance or vulnerability, whether due to age, illness, mental state or psychological subjection, to lead them into an act that is seriously harmful to them. In France it is punishable under Article 223-15-2 of the Penal Code, and the Consumer Code also penalizes abuse of weakness in commercial dealings. In clairvoyance, it covers, for example, selling repeated consultations or rituals to someone who is grieving, elderly or in distress.
