Three-card spread
Also past-present-future spread · three-card reading
The three-card spread lines up three cards, most often read as the past, present and future of the situation in question. Its simplicity makes it a spread for learning and for quick answers. Other conventions exist: situation, obstacle and advice; self, other and relationship; or a sentence in three beats read from left to right. The future it sketches is understood as a trend extending the present, not as an event fixed in advance.
