Reading cloth

A reading cloth is the fabric on which the cards are spread and laid out during a reading. It protects the deck, provides a surface where the cards slide smoothly and, for many readers, marks out a space set apart for the consultation. Some have a printed diagram of positions, notably for the astrological spread. Using one is a matter of comfort and ritual, not a requirement for the reading.
