Combination reading

Combination reading is the method of interpretation that gives meaning to cards read together, like the words of a sentence, rather than to each one in isolation. It is characteristic of the Petit Lenormand and the Kipper: the first card often acts as the subject and the second as a modifier, so that Letter plus Heart does not mean the same as Heart plus Letter, depending on the school. Lines of three and nine-card squares are the basic exercises, before the Grand Tableau.
