Kabbalah

Also Cabala · Qabalah · Kabbalistic

Kabbalah is the mystical tradition of Judaism, which seeks the hidden meaning of Scripture and the nature of God. The Hebrew word means “reception.” It flourished in Provence and Spain in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, notably with the Zohar, attributed to Moses de León. The Renaissance derived a Christian Kabbalah from it, and nineteenth-century occultism then linked its twenty-two Hebrew letters to the twenty-two Major Arcana of the tarot, a connection specific to Western esotericism.
