Smoke cleansing
Also smudging · fumigation
Smoke cleansing is the practice of burning plants, resins or wood to symbolically purify a person, an object or a place with smoke. Found in a great many cultures, it uses sage, palo santo, incense, cedar or rosemary. It belongs to the realm of ritual. The room should be ventilated, nothing should ever be left burning unattended, and care should be taken around people with asthma, children and pets.
