“Negative” card

A “negative” card is a common expression for dreaded cards such as Death, the Tower or the Devil. In serious tarot reading, no card on its own foretells misfortune, illness or death: each carries both difficult and constructive aspects. Presenting a card as a threat in order to sell an extra session, a ritual or some form of “protection” is a manipulative tactic that should be recognized and refused.
