Oomancy

Oomancy is divination by eggs, from the Greek ōon. Its best-known form consists of pouring the white of a raw egg into a glass of water and interpreting the shapes it takes as it slightly sets. Very old folk variants are known, linked in particular to Saint John’s Eve or to questions of marriage. In some Latin American and European traditions, the egg is also passed over the body and then broken to be read, a practice that is in no way a substitute for medical advice.
