Om

Also Aum · sacred syllable

Om, or Aum, is the sacred syllable of Hinduism, also found in Buddhism and Jainism. The Upanishads see it as the primordial sound, the expression of the absolute. It opens and closes many prayers and recitations, and is often chanted at the beginning and end of yoga or meditation sessions. Its written symbol, drawn from the Devanagari script, has become an emblem of Eastern spirituality.
