Premium-rate number

A premium-rate number is a phone number whose call price exceeds that of an ordinary call, with the difference paying for the service. In France, these value-added services start with 08; numbers beginning with 089 are the most expensive, and their rate is capped by regulation. A recorded price announcement must precede billing. In clairvoyance, per-minute surcharges can produce very high bills in just a few calls: it is wise to time calls and, if needed, ask one's carrier to block these numbers.
