Astrological modalities

The astrological modalities, or quadruplicities, divide the twelve signs into three groups of four according to how they act: cardinal, fixed and mutable. They follow the rhythm of the seasons, with cardinal signs opening a season, fixed signs occupying its heart and mutable signs preparing the next. Combined with the four elements, they give each sign a unique pairing.
