Jean Dodal

Also Jean Dodal Tarot · Dodal

Jean Dodal was a master cardmaker from Lyon in the early eighteenth century, the author of a Marseille-type tarot dated roughly between 1701 and 1715. Made partly for export, notably to Switzerland, this deck is one of the key witnesses to the pattern before Nicolas Conver's version. Historians and tarot readers value it for its bold colors and certain graphic peculiarities, such as the title of the Fool.
