Aleister Crowley

Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) was a British occultist who passed through the Golden Dawn before founding the religious movement he called Thelema. In tarot, he is best known as the designer of the Thoth Tarot, created with the painter Frieda Harris, and as the author of The Book of Thoth (1944). A controversial figure in his lifetime and since, he deeply influenced twentieth-century occultism and the symbolism of many modern tarot decks.
