Rune reading

Also rune casting · rune spread

A rune reading is the interpretation of one or more runes drawn at random from a pouch or cast onto a cloth. The most common forms are the single rune, often called Odin’s rune, for a simple question; the three-rune reading, read as past, present and future or as situation, obstacle and advice; and larger cross-shaped spreads. When casting, runes that land face down or off the cloth are also taken into account. Meanings vary from author to author, as no fixed ancient tradition has been handed down.
