Geomancy
Also Arabic geomancy · science of the sand
Geomancy is a divinatory art based on sixteen figures made of single or double dots, originally obtained by making random marks in sand or earth. Born in the Arab world under the name “science of the sand,” it reached Europe in the twelfth century through Latin translations, as well as West Africa and Madagascar, where it gave rise to related systems. The figures are combined into a chart whose interpretation answers the question asked. Elsewhere, the word also refers to the art of arranging places.
