Diviner
Also seer · soothsayer · mantis
A diviner is a person who practices divination, that is, who interprets signs or claims to be inspired to reveal what is hidden or yet to come. The word mostly evokes ancient and traditional figures: the Greek mantis, the Etruscan haruspex, the Yoruba babalawo. Depending on the society, the diviner might be a priest holding an official office, a specialist consulted before any important decision, or an inspired figure kept at a distance. The modern term “psychic” has taken over part of its meaning.
