Chromotherapy, or color therapy, is an alternative medicine. It is used to balance personal energy on a physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual level.
The standard diagnostic method used in chromotherapy was developed by Dr. Max Luscher in the early twentieth century. Chromotherapy dates back to the most ancient times, probably to the origins of Ayurvedic medicine. The Indian tradition associates colors with chakras. Traces of the therapeutic use of colors can also be found in ancient Chinese civilization. Traditional Chinese medicine associates a color with each organ.
Color therapy uses colors on various media: stones and gemstones, candles, prisms, clothing, or tinted glasses, for example. Since colors have both positive and negative effects, color therapy operates according to very subtle rules.
The colors of the chakras and their positions in the human body.
First chakra: located at the base of the spine.
Color: red.
The first chakra influences the legs, feet, and gait, as well as the anus and elimination. Its color is red. The positive qualities associated with this color are: tenacity, courage, loyalty, and perseverance. The flaws caused by an excess of red vibration are: stubbornness, bigotry, and mental heaviness.
This chakra can be associated with blood and bone marrow diseases, as well as with energy depletion.
Red is considered the color of life and fire. Red is said to accelerate the heart rate, increase blood pressure and respiratory rate. Red is also called the color of desire. It is generally used to support circulatory functions and to combat anemia, asthma, laryngeal diseases, certain skin diseases, and chronic cough. An excess of red in a person's aura can manifest as tendencies toward domination, cruelty, anger, and vulgarity.
Second chakra: located approximately three centimeters below the navel.
Color: orange.
Orange is a mixture of red and yellow; chromotherapy attributes to it a quality of warmth and conviviality. Orange is the color of the rising sun and makes individuals alert and cheerful. Surprising results can be achieved with it in the treatment of mental illnesses, depression, and pessimism. Orange can be used to treat atherosclerosis, loss of appetite, anemia, anorexia, and digestive problems. An excess of orange in a person’s aura can express confusion, fatigue, and pessimism.
Third chakra: solar plexus.
Color: yellow.
Yellow is the brightest color. It is commonly used in chromotherapy. Yellow reflects light in all directions and can thus create an impression of detachment and liberation. Chromotherapy uses yellow to combat glandular diseases, diseases of the lymphatic system, and to strengthen the nervous system. An excess of yellow in a person's aura may express a lack of concentration or a tendency toward malice and meanness.
Fourth chakra: located between the two lungs, at the level of the heart.
Color: green.
Green is located in the middle of the light spectrum. It is associated with harmony and calm. Green is considered the color of concentration. Chromotherapy uses green to treat bronchitis, coughs, and joint inflammation. Green can also have a positive influence in the treatment of cysts, eye diseases, and diabetes, improving secretory processes. Green is supposed to promote organ relaxation and body detoxification. An excess of green in a person's aura may be a sign of lack of motivation, lethargy, insecurity, and jealousy.
Fifth chakra: the throat.
Color: blue.
Chromotherapy considers blue the color of peace and infinity. Blue is believed to have a profound relaxing effect on the body and mind. The color blue can be used to relieve migraines and headaches, stomach aches, cramps, and even liver diseases. Generally, blue has a positive influence on pain. An excess of blue in a person’s aura may highlight a problem of apathy, melancholy, doubt, and excessive distrust.
Sixth chakra: located on the forehead, between the two eyes, at the point called the third eye.
Color: indigo.
Indigo is considered a color that enhances spiritual perception and intuition. It is used for treating the eyes, ears, nose, and psychological issues. It is also used to combat addictions. The color indigo is said to have a sedative and calming effect. Chromotherapy maintains that indigo can be useful in treating abscesses and controlling bleeding. An excess of indigo in a person's aura may be a sign of a personality that is too serious and too restrictive.
Seventh chakra: located at the top of the skull.
Color: purple.
Chromotherapy considers violet the color of emotions and meditation. Violet is used to treat the lymphatic system and the spleen. It is also used to soothe the organs, relax the muscles, and calm the nervous system. An excess of violet in a person’s aura may be a sign of a tendency toward fanaticism and domination.
The colors of the light spectrum correspond to vibrational frequencies that are interpreted by the brain as different hues. We are therefore in the presence of wave phenomena that benefit from being analyzed as such.
