The truth

Machine translation.

Hello!

A private conversation on the subject gave me the idea to open this thread here.

Is truth singular, or is it multiple?

Of course, it would be convenient if there were only one universal truth, but I don't believe that.

Even for a scientist, truth is what emerges from multiple experiments at the time they are conducted. But as knowledge grows, truth changes.
A well-known example: for millennia, people believed the Earth was flat; it was the truth of the time, but since Christopher Columbus, we have had the new truth that it is round.

Then there are the truths of each civilization, the truths of each group of individuals.

And then there is the truth of our conditioning, that of our genes, and those our parents taught us.

I personally believe that deep down, everyone has their own truth, and it is not necessarily the same as their neighbor's.

We just need to learn to respect the other person's truth.

What do you think about all of this?
What is your opinion?

Sincerely

My god!!! That’s the 3rd time in 2 weeks that I think you’re reading my mind!!!

Indeed, after wisdom and virtue, we had to talk about truth!!!

Hello Mamyol!

All times, everyone has always believed they possessed the truth and knowledge.
Many truths only lead us to seek to be right, even when we are wrong.
The most beautiful truth is the one we believe in, whether it is philosophical, spiritual, based on our convictions, or otherwise, which leads me to say that each person holds their own truth.

There are “true” truths, demonstrable ones; in philosophy, these are called scientific statements.

The very nature of these claims is that it would be easy to prove the opposite if they were false.

Example: the lake is full of water.

If that weren't true, it would be empty or filled with something else. Easy to take apart.

Example: Michael Jackson is alive

It is enough to see it to prove it, and if that were not true, the mere sight of its corpse would demonstrate that it is not alive.

Others are undemonstrable truths or non-scientific claims. One cannot prove that they are not true.

Example: There is a huge green monster 100 meters long in the Seine.

How can we prove that this is not true? It’s impossible; we would have to drain the Seine. Impossible.

Example 2: God Exists

How to prove that it is false? Impossible.
Empty the space ???

These claims necessarily rely on bundles of evidence and beliefs.

And that's where the liver will make the difference!

Every time we think that something is true or not, we must place ourselves in that reasoning… If I were wrong, could evidence be brought to me?
Otherwise, it’s just my liver that tells me what’s true or not…

These demonstrative mechanics, which are undemonstrable or unverifiable, are used by religions, sects, and certain psychics…

But also not the ill-intentioned critics who say that so-and-so said that… how do you prove that they are right?

Hello Tom,

Truth does indeed pass through this aspect that is demonstrable, not provable, proven, affirmed, or refuted.
The truth also lies in this matter of believing or not believing, hence the "to be or not to be."

Kind regards

Hi guys!

Tom is reading your thoughts! No, I don't have that ability. If the way we think is heading in the same direction, it's just a simple coincidence.
But I do believe in coincidences.

Let us set aside the “true truths,” such as the one that the participants of this forum are living beings, on which there can be no contestation (and yet, some living beings participate so little in their own lives!).

As for undemonstrable truths, I think all three of us are in agreement, as you say, Magic:
Each person holds their own truth

Often it is the opinion of the majority that leads to establishing a viewpoint as a truth, but the majority can be wrong and the view of a single person can be the truth.
Don't they say that the exception proves the rule?

Often, many of us say:
I hate it when people don't tell me the truth.
He or she did not tell me the truth.

What do we know to judge it?
That person may not have said what we consider to be the truth, our truth. But unless it was a deliberate lie, in most cases they simply gave what they consider to be the truth, their own truth.

All truths that differ from ours are not necessarily lies.

Best regards

Hello Mamyol,

I quote you:

Often, many of us say:
I hate it when people don’t tell me the truth.
He or she did not tell me the truth.

What do we know to judge it?
That person may not have said what we consider to be the truth, our truth. But unless it was a deliberate lie, in most cases they simply gave what they consider to be the truth, their own truth.

That is precisely the problem, because our truths are never the same; each person has their own truth.

It seems to me that some people know very well that they are not telling the truth or that they are circumventing it for a reason. (I have also caught people out this way, because when one is not telling the truth, it can be felt.)

Kind regards,
ClaudiaC

The point of view

I was waiting for someone to bring it up. Yes, the truth depends on the point of view. From where you look.

That's it, Tom.

The truth is multiple: just as the sky is blue. In theory, yes, it is a truth. But there will always be someone who comes along to say: no, not when there are clouds or at night.

What is the truth for the one who hides it?
What is the truth for the one who replaces it with a lie?

I’ve noticed that body language matters. You can say one thing, but a movement shows the opposite… and in this case, the movement is rather accurate. And that’s where the truth lies…

So, does God exist?

How can we know if this is true?

Good evening, Tom!

Believing in God is a matter of opinion, and each person will determine for themselves, according to their convictions, whether this is true or false!

Tom, would you like my personal opinion or a generalized answer?

There is no truth, only points of view.
All truth depends first on our own point of view.

Every living being therefore has its own truth, which is unique and personal to it.

In mathematics, we speak of axioms… even the theory of relativity… these are truths, but nothing prevents us from one day proving the opposite, or from them being erroneous. Just because something is obvious does not mean it is empirically true.

This is where spirituality and science conflict… after all, isn’t believing in a truth a form of faith? Isn’t having faith believing in the proof of truth?

Hello Xercr,

Spirituality belongs to the domain of faith, while science belongs to the domain of objectivity and the tangible, and this is indeed where the conflict between the two lies.
All proof of truth lies within oneself, for everyone believes they possess it, and it is precisely there that faith divides us through the beliefs of each individual.

Hello,

What is the truth?

The one that is instilled in us by respect and non-judgment and its accompanying paths (sharing, clarity of mind), or the one that allows the ego to manifest.

The truth, if we knew it, would leave us defenseless yet also awestruck by what resides in every being…

beak of me you you …

Hello Lolly pop!

The truth is a fruit that is picked when it is ripe.

Hello to you all!

When everything is in disarray, when one no longer knows which path to take, when all the efforts one believed to have made on the journey of self-discovery crumble, the truth is hard to accept… Especially when one knows it will hurt someone else, perhaps even more than oneself. Maintaining constant contact with one’s truth is not easy in this world, but life would surely be simpler if we could manage to do so.
I admit that for the moment I'm floundering in confusion, and I have the impression that the more I seek this truth, the more I find ways to avoid it…

Thank you all for your comforting words and moral support, in difficult times and less difficult ones alike, it is always good to see you again!

affectionately,
Barbie

Good evening, Barbie!

To be happy, you don't always have to seek out certain truths, but simply know how to live your life and enjoy every moment it offers, without hesitating to say "I love you" to those you love.

With all my affection

Hello Xercr,
I agree with your answer.
The truth is different for each of us. Because we are all different. And we all react to it differently.
Best regards

In Zen, knowing the truth is having the experience of discovering what lies at the core of oneself.

Getting closer to one's own inner light and ultimately being in harmony with oneself.

Everyone has their own truth: “Do you believe in God? Then God exists. You don’t believe in Him? Then He doesn’t exist…”
Cultivating this philosophy and believing that what is true is true for oneself and not for the other is fundamental; it could be a “religion of the future” based on respect for others and love of one’s neighbor. Without trying to convince them that we are right, but simply seeking to learn from each other.
